I was once a sleep deprived mom.
I am Carrie Dunn, a mother of four and a certified Gentle Sleep Coach. I founded Sleep Actually to educate and empower families to gently and supportively teach their children to get the rest they need. Some days I am still exhausted, but thankfully, it’s not due to sleep deprivation. That was not always the case.
Before my first daughter was born, I filled my bookshelves with sleep books, educated myself on breastfeeding, and prepared a comfortable and safe sleep environment for my daughter. I convinced myself my daughter would be a good sleeper, surely, because I had done my homework.
My plans eventually unraveled. After months of sleepless nights, our family was exhausted and I felt defeated and powerless. I wanted to help my daughter, and despite reading plenty of books, I didn’t know how.
I was so fortunate to find a sleep coach who gave me the tools I needed to help my daughter sleep. Within days, my daughter was sleeping and our family was functioning again. After successfully helping my three additional children, each with their own personality, learn to sleep better, I knew this process was teachable and repeatable. And, I found my calling.
Sleep Actually allows me to support and empower families. I know how difficult it is to function when a child can’t sleep well, and I am grateful for the opportunity to use my experience and training to improve the lives of other families.
In addition to my Gentle Sleep Coach training, I have a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia, and I’ve taken many courses on child development and psychology. I live in Arlington, VA with my husband and four, well rested, children.
Sleep promotes healthy cognitive, emotional, and physical growth in children. If you are an exhausted parent looking for a gentle solution to help your child get the rest they need, please contact me.
